# Cylc 8.7 released

### Cylc 8.7.0 is here!

A quick summary:

- Cylc 7 compatibility mode has been removed
- Improved handling of tasks removed by a reload/restart
- Template variables can now be configured in the `global.cylc` file for automatic use in all workflows
- You can now reinstall workflows from the GUI
- Tasks outside of the active (N=0) window are now shown as dimmed in the GUI, to make it clear which tasks are currently active
