# Tip: Cycle Share Directory

A new per-cycle share directory has been added, `share/cycle/<cycle>` in Cylc 8.5.0.

This directory is now automatically created and provides a convenient location for tasks to share cycle-specific data. See also [Shared Task IO Paths](https://cylc.github.io/cylc-doc/stable/html/workflow-design-guide/general-principles.html#shared-task-io-paths).

This largely replicates the functionality of the Rose [`ROSE_DATAC`](https://metomi.github.io/rose/2.4.0/html/api/environment-variables.html#envvar-ROSE_DATAC) environment variable, but does not require the use of `rose task-env`.
